Our Insignia
Preserving Culture Together
Fiji Canada Association is a community-driven organization dedicated to connecting Fijians across Canada. We celebrate our rich cultural heritage, promote unity, and create opportunities for growth, support, and meaningful connections. By embracing our traditions while looking toward the future, we strive to strengthen the bond between Fijian and Canadian values.
At first glance of the Fiji Canada Association (FCA) insignia or emblem, you cannot help but notice the red Maple Leaf, a symbol of Canada’s nationality and independence. The modern Canadian flag, bearing its hallmark Maple Leaf, was raised for the first time on Parliament Hill on February 15, 1965. The maple tree and its distinctive leaves are more than just a fixture of Canada’s natural beauty: it has also come to symbolize unity, tolerance and peace. To incorporate these values in the emblem of our Association was most fitting and appropriate.
The blueprint for our emblem was submitted by Premila Singh and approved at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of June 1981. Edward Palad and Satyendra Sharma were given the responsibility of finding a graphic artist to design the emblem. George Shankaran moved at the AGM of June 22, 1986 that FCA should also print this emblem onto neck-ties and felt badges for blazers. To offset costs, we found a company in Pakistan who agreed to take on this task.
